Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Manchester City's James Milner, according to a report in London 24, and he could be the perfect addition for Mauricio Pochettino's system.
Milner has become unsettled at City due to a lack of first-team appearances and is set to become a free agent this summer.
His availability will alert a number of clubs, but Tottenham are said to be towards the head of the queue and it would be quite a coup for Spurs to land the England international.
Milner has been one of City's star performers this season, but the Telegraph ran a report in December stating that he knows he does not feature in Manuel Pellegrini's first-team plans when everyone is fit.
Although the 29-year-old's game time has been increased this year, he knows that the depth in City's squad means that he is always fighting to stay in the starting line-up.
Milner, therefore, is reportedly looking for a team where he will be more assured of a starting place, and that would be the case at White Hart Lane.
Pochettino has high demands of his players, but Milner has all the credentials to fit in with their current system.
Spurs favour a fluid approach, but one which demands that the players press high and makes their offensive stars also contribute on the defensive side of the game.
Milner's energy and discipline make him the perfect addition for this role and, should Spurs sign him, he would be as close to a guaranteed success that they could land.
Tottenham have placed plenty of emphasis on bringing through young talent, but Milner's experience could be crucial as they look to challenge for a top-four space again next year.
His arrival would be a real statement of intent, but it would also increase the quality of their line-up immeasurably and rarely does a transfer look to have so much potential as this one.
