West Ham United battled their way to a 0-0 draw against Southampton last night, which is one of the most impressive points they have secured this season.
What was more impressive is that they had to play part of the game with ten men after Adrian was sent off for handling outside the box while under pressure from Sadio Mane.
The Hammers were effectively down to nine men at the end of the game when Andy Carroll was forced to limp around the pitch with a problem, as Sam Allardyce was out of substitutions.
Sam Allardyce told the BBC after the game that he thought his goalkeeper had been fouled, which led to his error.
Whether he was, credit has to go to the way West Ham dug in and produced a gritty display which got them a point when other sides may have folded and caved in.
Southampton started to control possession inside the final half an hour after Adrian had been given his marching orders, stretching West Ham from side to side.
It was a very different performance to the one against Manchester United last weekend, where the Hammers were in control for most of the match and looked likely to secure an important win.
It showcased the versatility which West Ham possess and the ability to play dogged football just as much as they can step on the gas and control games against the biggest sides in the division.
Here’s what West Ham fans on Twitter made of Adrian’s performance last night.
Don't know what to make on Adrian's sending off to be fair he was always chopping the ball just first touch was awful! Foul or not? #Adrian— Scott (@ScottyShults) February 11, 2015
A player is sent off, however, if he prevents a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball. #Adrian— Dark Energy (@darkenergy77) February 11, 2015
