The Chronicle has reported that Lee Cattermole is set to resume a full role in Sunderland training next week.
The midfielder has been suffering from a knee injury, which he picked up at the back end of last year and the paper suggests that he could feature in the game against West Brom.
The issue for Gus Poyet is whether he goes straight back into the starting side or whether he’s held back on the subs bench, to be introduced into the game if it’s going well.
There is merit in starting him because he’s a very aggressive player and a leader in Sunderland’s midfield.
He puts himself about effectively and is a leader in terms of protecting his teammates and demanding the best from them.
However, Poyet won’t want to make the problem he’s carrying worse and it’s important he doesn’t feature if there are any complications during training.
If he makes it through full training sessions then he’ll be in line to start though the fact he hasn’t played for well over a month also means there is going to be the possibility of fatigue.
