The Forest striker appears to have dislocated his knee.
Nottingham Forest continued their perfect start under the stewardship of Dougie Freedman last night with an excellent 3-0 win against Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic. The result, which came courtesy of goals from Britt Assombalonga, Chris Burke and Henri Lansbury was just rewards for an excellent performance at the City Ground.
But it came at a price.
Their star striker Assombalonga left the field of play in agony with what the Nottingham Post are saying is a dislocated knee.
The summer signing from Peterborough is therefore touch and go regarding his involvement in the rest of the Championship season.
He received plenty of support on Twitter last night, even from rival strikers. Patrick Bamford is currently on loan at Middlesbrough from Chelsea however last season he was at Forest's bitter rivals Derby County. This campaign has seen the young striker score nine goals in the Championship this season, quite a way off of Assombalonga's 15.
But the strikers union was in full flow as he sent this Tweet to the striker last night.
Not nice to see any injury, looked innocuous from the stands. Hope you're ok bro @BrittOfficials stay strong!— Patrick Bamford (@Patrick_Bamford) February 11, 2015
It would appear that Bamford, who is a former Nottingham Forest youngster, was in attendance for the game and clearly wishes the striker all the best in his recovery.
Fellow Forest fans will be hoping the injury is not as severe as it seems to be.
