Nacho Monreal held a question and answer session with the official Champions League Twitter account.
Monreal has been an Arsenal player for just over two years now, and he revealed which Gunners legend he looks up to.
A left-back, one would expect the Spanish international to look to the likes of Nigel Winterburn, Kenny Sansom or Ashley Cole, or even to favour one of his national teammates, such as Cesc Fabregas, Jose Antonio Reyes or Santi Cazorla. However, Monreal has told the official Champions League Twitter account that he, like many others, believes Thierry Henry to be the most inspiring Arsenal hero.
A bona fide legend in North London, recent retiree Henry scored 228 goals in 377 games for the Gunners, cementing himself as one of the key players in their Invincibles season of 2003/04. After leaving the club in 2007, Henry spent time with Barcelona and MLS side New York Red Bulls, briefly returning to the Emirates for a successful loan spell in 2012.
Considered one of the club’s best ever players, and one of the best foreigners to ever grace the Premier League, Henry was voted first in Arsenal’s top 50 players in history, as per the official club website.
Henry was a key figure in the Gunners most recent spell of success, and it is likely that Monreal will come nowhere near to having the impact that the former French international did during his time in North London. However, the left-back may be remembered fondly if he continues to perform in his impressive manner, and starts to lead Arsenal to a host of silverware.
