Dowie suggested that a problem for the new manager coming in at Villa Park is that they will find a squad with a lot of similar players.
“I look at the players they have – the player who arrived in the summer – they’re all a bit samey, I think Delph is the only one with any real dynamism,” said Dowie.
Paul Lambert was sacked following the defeat against Hull, which saw the side drop into the bottom three.
That places the side under pressure to appoint a new boss quickly and Dowie seems to feel that the new guy coming in has to try and find a way of making the side more exciting and dynamic.
How the new boss can do that is difficult to judge but basing the side around Delph is a good way to start.
The England international is capable of playing a solid role in front of the defence, he can play off to the left and he’s also got the ability to drive forward and get involved in attacks when he needs to.
The main challenge could be not just injecting more dynamism into the side, but finding a way to give the players the belief they can get safe and can improve their immediate fortunes.
