Manchester City and Ivory Coast duo Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony were among the players named in the Africa Cup of Nations team of the tournament.
Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony have been named as part of a quintet of Premier League stars that feature in the team of the tournament for the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
The Manchester City midfielder captained Ivory Coast to their first AFCON success since 1992, with new Sky Blues signing Bony netting two goals at the tournament in the Elephants’ pivotal 3-1 victory over fellow favourites Algeria in the quarter finals.
They were joined by Liverpool defender Kolo Toure and Crystal Palace attacker Yannick Bolasie, with the latter helping the Democratic Republic of Congo to a surprise third-place finish at the tournament.
Bolasie scored one goal and set up another during his national side’s march to the final four and was back in action for Crystal Palace in the Premier League against Newcastle United this week.
Christian Atsu rounded off the Premier League stars named in the team with the Ghana winger, who is currently on a season long loan at Everton from Chelsea, also picking up the award for goal of the tournament following his fine strike for the Black Stars in their 3-0 quarter final victory over Guinea.
Former Arsenal star Gervinho was also named in the team of the tournament along with former Leeds United and Leicester City winger Max Gradel.
