Ex-Liverpool hero Luis Suarez’s name chanted by Barcelona crowd

Suarez Liverpool

The Uruguayan has not shown his best form since switching Anfield for Camp Nou, but put in a great showing against Villarreal.

Luis Suarez has not exactly hit the ground running for new club Barcelona, with his match-winning performances for Liverpool not replicated at the start of the La Liga season.

With Lionel Messi the main man at the Catalan club and Neymar also weighing in with goals, the Uruguayan has come in for criticism in the press in recent weeks.

However, Suarez showed just what he is capable of in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Villarreal in the Copa del Rey last night, with a dazzling performance from the South American star.

The ex-Red set up the opening goal for Messi in the 41st minute and had an industrious night in front of the Camp Nou faithful.

Such was Suarez’s impact in creating the opening goal, the Barcelona fans chanted his name in a show of solidarity that will surely give the attacker additional confidence.

The Uruguay international played the full ninety minutes of the clash, which sees Barcelona on the cusp of reaching the competition final, where they would face either Athletic Bilbao or Espanyol.

Suarez got on the scoresheet in Barca’s 5-2 away win at Bilbao at the weekend and as such seems to be settling in his new surrounds after an uncertain first six months at the club.
