The England capped striker has scored four in five for The Rams.
Since Aston Villa sacked Paul Lambert yesterday there has been plenty of suspicion regarding just who will replace him. That is not the only thing people have been pondering about. Many are also asking the question of whether whoever does take over will bring Darren Bent back from his loan spell at Derby County.
The former England international has scored four goals in just 222 minutes of football for Derby and The Rams would not want to see him go for any reason whatsoever.
With that in mind the news spread by their boss Steve McLaren will be welcomed. The Derby Telegraph report McLaren as confirming that Bent cannot be recalled from his loan spell by Aston Villa.
He is reported to have said:
"We're very lucky that we've got Benty to come in.
"I thought he slotted in very well on Tuesday night and deserved his goal. It was a great goal.
"He's enjoying his football again, which is the key thing.
"We're pleased about that and we're pleased that he can't go back to Villa now. That would have been a blow."
Aston Villa are desperate for goals. Christian Benteke has misfired while Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann are not out-and-out strikers themselves. Couple that with the lack of goals from their midfield area and it is little wonder why The Villans have slipped into the relegation zone in recent weeks.
They are the lowest scorers in the top flight and the hope was Bent might be able to help out. McLaren has extinguished that hope once and for all.
