United maintain impressive record versus Burnley; Van Persie reaches season landmark

Following Manchester United's 3-1 Premier League victory over Burnley at Old Trafford, we bring you all the best Opta Stats.

Manchester United climbed up to third in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Sean Dyche's rather unfortunate Burnley side on Wednesday evening.

Despite finding themselves under intense pressure for long spells, the Red Devils were ahead at the halfway stage thanks to a brace from substitute Chris Smalling, either side of a Danny Ings diving header.

The visitors continued to pile on the pressure throughout the second period, but Robin van Persie ensured three points from the penalty spot in the closing stages.

Here are the top five statistics from Wednesday evening's encounter, courtesy of Opta:

1 - Man United have now lost just 1 of their last 18 games in all competitions, a 1-0 defeat to Southampton.

99 - Following Sam Allardyce's criticism of the Red Devil's playing style last weekend, the emphasis over the coming games will likely be the club's passing stats. They attempted 99 long balls versus Burnley, completing 61% of them.
