Chelsea morning round-up: Mourinho explains why he dropped Courtois for Everton win

A round up of news stories this morning related to Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has been quoted by West London Sport explaining why he left Thibaut Courtois out of the win against Everton.

The experienced Petr Cech came into the starting line-up for the match, producing a world class save, which turned out to be the difference.

Mourinho has suggested that a goalkeeper can be fatigued, as he feels was the case with his Belgian.

Roberto Martinez has been quoted by ESPN suggesting that Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic should have been sent off during the 1-0 win over the Toffees last night.

The defender grabbed Everton midfielder James McCarthy around the neck during the game.

Everton’s manager claims had the officials stuck to the letter of the law, the defender would have been shown a red card.

Mourinho has also been quoted by ESPN defending his player when asked about an apparent head-butt from the defender during the game.

Mourinho told reporters that he would leave if someone asked him another question over the alleged incident, implying questions suggesting his defender was overly aggressive made him laugh.
