Chelsea fans react on Twitter to Hazard's new deal

How Chelsea's Twitter-based supporters reacted to news of Eden Hazard's bumper new deal at Stamford Bridge.

With news of Eden Hazard committing his future to Chelsea until 2020, fans could be forgiven for getting a bit carried away on Twitter.

Arriving from Lille in June 2012 for a reported £32 million fee, per The Guardian, Hazard has since grown into one of the most dangerous attackers in world football, netting 43 goals in 147 total appearances for the club, as well as recording 46 assists.

The Belgium international has taken his game to another level this season, scoring a Premier League-leading nine times from midfield in his 25 games, while also creating 67 chances – the second-most in the division behind teammate Cesc Fabregas.

Most impressive, though, is his 177 dribbles – 39 more than his nearest rival Alexis Sanchez.

Those are the kind of numbers which are said to have attracted the interest of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid in recent months, according to the Express, but the Blues ace will instead be keeping his talents at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future.

“I am very happy that Eden has signed a new contract,” manager Jose Mourinho told the club’s official website. “It shows he believes in the club’s coaching staff and players to help him become the best player in the world.

“He is already a top player and his evolution has been fantastic. He is still very young and he can become the best.”

That’s strong praise indeed from Mourinho but, at just 24, Hazard no doubt still has a great deal of development ahead of him.

And now, with most of it set to take place in west London, here’s how the club’s Twitter-based supporters reacted to news of their star man's new deal.
