Mario Balotelli netted his first Premier League goal for Liverpool last night.

Controversial striker Mario Balotelli took to social media site Instagram to share his feelings on scoring his first Premier League goal for the Reds.

He wrote: Great game guys!!! This smile is ONLY for those that always Belive and support me. Thank you and Forza Liverpool. But now head down and keep working hard. Tonight is past.

The Italian international joined the Reds from AC Milan in the summer as an initial replacement for last season’s top goalscorer Luis Suarez who departed for Barcelona.

Matching the Uruguayan’s goal tally for last season - 31 league goals in 33 matches – was always going to be a tough ask, but not many expected a player of Balotelli’s talent to struggle so abundantly.

The former Manchester City ace failed to find in the net in the Premier League in his first 14 appearances stretching over six months of the season.

The wait, however, is finally over as 24-year-old lifted the Anfield roof off by netting a late winner in the thrilling 3-2 win over fellow top four rival Tottenham Hotspur.

Appearing as a 74th minute substitute, Balotelli was perfectly placed as Adam Lallana drilled in a cross which just needed a simply tap-in from two yards.

Still, like all good strikers, Balotelli found himself in the right place at the right time and his goal could go a long way in the Reds’ quest for a top four spot.

Here are the best photos of Balotelli’s crowning moment:
