Newcastle United star Siem de Jong has spoken positively in the Shields Gazette after undergoing surgery on a collapsed lung.
De Jong was on the verge of a return to competitive action for the first team, but suffered the problem, which the paper suggests was designed to ensure no further repeat of the problem in the future.
“I’m sorry for my team-mates, the club and our fans that I’m not able to help the team for a little while longer,” said de Jong.
The apology shows just how passionate de Jong is about succeeding for the side and doing well for the club.
His recovery from this problem is going to really challenge him mentally and he has to stay focused in his fight to get back into the first team.
John Carver also has a big role to play because he needs to keep the player mentally boosted whether that’s by including him in training sessions or a simple promise that he remains part of his plans at Newcastle.
He could give the side a boost in terms of the attack looking ahead to the latter stages of the season, which is significant as the Magpies could be competing for a European place.
He just has to make sure he recovers well and stays positive.
