A year ago Moisander even discussed rumours of a move to Everton, telling NUsport:
"I have not heard from Everton. So I think it was just a rumor,"
Tottenham Hotspur have also been rumoured to be interested in the Finland international. It was reported by SoccerNews.nl just this week that both Everton and Spurs were renewing their interest in the player ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the current season.
Now it seems they are too late.
Moisander looks to have signed a pre-contract agreement with Serie A side Sampdoria. La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting this morning that Moisander has signed with the Genoa-based outfit on a three-year deal starting this summer.
They claim the player flew to Italy this morning and underwent a medical at the club before putting pen-to-paper on a deal.
Both Premier League sides, but in particular Everton, needed quality reinforcement at the heart of their respective defences. With Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin no spring chickens and Antolin Alcaraz not up to scratch, Everton would have loved a player like Moisander.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have had to endure the sub-par performances of Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches on one too many an occasion.
But they will now need to look elsewhere as Moisander is heading to Italy.
