Jonathan Woodgate marked his surprise inclusion in the Middlesbrough starting line-up against Blackpool with a goal.
The former Leeds, Tottenham and Real Madrid defender was making his first Championship start of the season, and netted the opener with a header to powering home a corner kick.
Middlesbrough went onto win the game 2-1, and climbed to the top of the table in the process, with Derby and Bournemouth cancelling each other out with a draw.
Woodgate is 35-years-old and while one of the best defenders around in his day, his career has been badly hampered by injuries preventing him from reaching his potential.
A former England international, Woodgate admitted earlier this month speaking to The Times that he considered retirement earlier this season but manager Aitor Karanka talked him out of it.
With Middlesbrough fighting strongly for promotion, it's hard to see Woodgate playing part in the Premier League should they get there, but helping them do so would be a real feather in his cap and a strong way to sign off his career.
Against Blackpool he made two interceptions, and also made 10 clearances, which was double the number of any other Middlesbrough defender.
Even if it transpires he does not play another game for the club again, this was a perfect night at Bloomfield Road for the veteran.
Here's a look at how fans reacted to his display...
Great to see Woodgate score and play full 90 minutes. Thought Kalas, Forshaw and Clayton were brilliant too. #Boro— Steph Clark (@StephClarkEcho) February 11, 2015
