Five things we learned about Tottenham Hotspur from their defeat at Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a 3-2 defeat away at Liverpool last night.

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a disappointing defeat at Liverpool last night, as they failed to back up a positive win in the North London derby last weekend.

Here are five things we learned about Spurs from the game.

Kane is still the main man

Harry Kane made it 23 goals for the season. He’s the real deal and is doing the business against the biggest teams in the division. All credit to the club for recently getting him committed to a new long term contract.

Time for Ben Davies to get a chance

Danny Rose looked tired and that caused him to be wasteful in possession. He was also caught on the wrong side of Daniel Sturridge, which resulted in Liverpool’s penalty. A simple change Pochettino could make is bringing Ben Davies back into the starting line-up.

Can Spurs do the business away from home?

The North London derby win came in front of Tottenham’s home fans, as did the victory against Chelsea. Spurs may not be genuinely feared by the sides in and around them until they hold their nerve in games like this and secure consistent victories.

Defensive discipline

Spurs were by no means at their defensive best, but they battled hard. Pochettino will be disappointed they couldn’t see out the game, with Balotelli’s winner coming inside the final ten minutes.

Rose wasn’t the only player who looked a little tired for Tottenham during the game. The boss needs to find a way of freshening things up to keep that energy in the team, which is when Tottenham look at their very best.
