Confirmed: Nottingham Forest v Wigan line-ups - Gardner starts

Forest City Ground

Here are the teams for the Championship clash between Nottingham Forest and Wigan Athletic.

Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman will be looking for a few improvements from his team this evening despite a 3-2 win against Brighton in his first game in charge. The defence needs to be a bit more resilient during this game, because Wigan are battling away and fighting for their lives at the other end of the Championship table. Forest will move up to tenth place in the table with a win, which would put them to within 12 points of a play-off place. It’s still a long way off but a perfect run of form could see the club sneak into the top six.

There’s no other way to describe this match for Wigan than vital. The side are currently eight points away from safety in the Championship and they’re going to have to find ways of getting results in games like this to try and reduce the gap. Wigan haven’t won a game since mid-December in the league and a good result here will do their confidence the world of good over the next couple of important weeks.
