Tony Watt came off the bench to help inspire a Charlton comeback against Norwich, which ultimately proved in vain.
The 21-year-old scored the the Addicks as they fought back from 2-0 down to get level, before a late Cameron Jerome condemned them to a 3-2 loss.
Watt signed for Belgian side Standard Liege last summer but struggled to establish himself, and switched to Charlton in early January.
He has made only one start since signing, and has had to make do with time coming off the bench in recent weeks. Last night was his best performance of the lot, not only owing to his goal.
Beating the offside trap, Watt raced through to calmly slide the ball past onrushing goalkeeper John Ruddy.
The goal was from the only shot Watt attempted, but he did manage to create two goalscoring chances for his teammates, looking bright alongside Igor Veteleke.
Watt will forever be associated with his winning goal for Celtic against Barcelona as a teenager, but he has struggled to build on that bright moment.
Charlton have slipped to 20th in the Championship table as a result of the loss, but if there was a reason to be cheerful it comes in the prospect that Watt could yet become a hero at The Valley and play a crucial role between now and the end of the season.
Here is a look at how fans reacted on Twitter to his performance...
If Watt doesn't start Saturday there will be trouble, quality in himself, and seemed to bring the best out of Igor. #cafc.— . (@HarryEllis_CAFC) February 10, 2015
Loved some of Tony Watt's touches on the ball, clearly confident and not (yet) Charltonised. Long may it continue #cafc— Paul Rocke (@PaulRocke87) February 10, 2015
Only players who can take any pride out of last night were Jordan Cousins and Tony Watt #cafc— Lewis Catt (@LewisCatt9) February 11, 2015
If there's one thing #cafc can learn from tonight it's that Watt & Vetokele have to start on Saturday.— Andy Phillips (@APCAFC) February 10, 2015
Watt and Igor getting goals tonight is promising. Hopefully Watt will start and they'll both have a bit of confidence #cafc— Alex Rogans (@RogDog_CAFC) February 10, 2015
