Atari change up a classic into an open world, sandbox style, survival experience.
On Tuesday Atari announced Asteroids: Outpost for PC, which is a reboot, or I guess more of a re-imagining, of the classic arcade game from 1979.
Asteroids: Outpost will see players taking on the role of a deep space miner, struggling to survive in an asteroid belt. The game will be an "open world, sandbox style, survival experience," according to a press release.
Collecting resources, scavenging for ore, crafting equipment and expanding territory are the main objectives as players explore the asteroid. Other players will be doing the same, as this is a multiplayer game, so they will need to form alliances and fight off other players too.
Asteroids: Outpost is currently in development by Salty Games and is due to be available on PC. No release window, other than 'coming soon', has been mentioned.
