With James Tomkins putting pen to paper on a new deal until 2020, West Ham United fans have been taking to Twitter to give their thoughts on the move.
Tomkins, 25, has made 205 total appearances since coming up through the Upton Park ranks to earn his first-team debut in March 2008, and has been on the club’s books from the age of seven.
The centre-back has been in fine form this season, making 16 starts in 17 Premier League appearances to help the Hammers up to eighth-place in the table after 24 games, and told the team's official website of his delight at committing his long-term future to his childhood club.
"I think it's brilliant that the Club has shown faith in me and offered me this deal and I'm delighted to sign it," Tomkins said.
"I've been here since I was seven and this is a long-term deal which is going to take me up until I'm in my thirties, so it's nice to commit my future here.
"It's been a good season, but it's still got a little way to go yet and the job is not done. We've had a good year so far and we want to continue it. I feel like my performances have come along a lot this year and I am just enjoying playing really."
Tomkins suffered a broken nose in the weekend’s 1-1 home draw with Manchester United following a clash with Robin van Persie, but it won't stop him from starting tomorrow night’s trip to Southampton.
“The nose is a bit swollen. Fellaini was the second time in the match when I broke it. He has always got that about him when he goes up with his hands a lot,” he said.
That kind of graft is sure to further endear him to the West Ham faithful moving forward, with the following being just some of the reactions to news of the homegrown product's re-signing.
Absolutely thrilled at the James Tomkins contract extension. He's a great asset to the club, and pleased he's staying out of trouble. #COYI— Emily Pulham (@makingthemarrow) February 10, 2015

Note to Spurs fans - James Tomkins never played for or supported anyone else. This is what "one of our own" really means #whufc— Nick Earl (@NickEarl) February 10, 2015
