The Hammers star who managed to complete his personal challenge against United

West Ham

West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian wanted to match Manchester United's David de Gea this weekend.

West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian has told the club's official site that he enjoyed playing against Manchester United's David de Gea on Sunday.

Adrian has been impressed by his United-based compatriot this season and having the chance to try and match him this weekend was something that pleased the 'keeper.

"It was a good challenge between Spanish 'keepers," the Hammers stopper said. "De Gea made some very good saves on Sunday - he saved them really.

"We absolutely deserved the three points. We played well and showed a good performance, but this is football."

De Gea may have looked the more overworked of the two 'keepers during the match, with West Ham repeatedly calling him into action, but the stats suggest that Adrian was actually able to achieve his goal and match the United custodian.

David de Gea 5 2 1 90

Both goalkeepers made five saves during the contest, whilst they also came off their lines to catch two crosses.

For Adrian to be able to match De Gea is evidence of just how talented a player he has become with the Hammers.

Although the West Ham star does not take as much acclaim as De Gea, who has arguably been United's best player this season, he is still one of their most important players and their success has been built on the solid platform he has provided them.

Adrian has rarely made an error all season and his shot-stopping ability makes him a player who West Ham look likely to build their team around for years to come.
