Report: Everton want Luke Garbutt to extend stay at club

Everton Goodison

The Blues are reportedly keen to get the youngster to sign a new contract at the club.

Everton are keen for defender Luke Garbutt to sign a new contract, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The 21-year-old left back is out of contract in the summer and the player’s representatives and the club have been negotiating a new deal for him according to the paper.

They believe that the club have offered the former Leeds United youngster an improved deal to keep him at the club, and manager Martinez is keen for the England under-21 international to stay at the club.

He has made four appearances for the Blues this season and impressed every time, with a standout performance in the 2-0 over Wolfsburg in the Europa League a particular highlight.

Despite his impressing the Goodison crowd, he was left out of the squad for the recent derby against Liverpool despite Leighton Baines’ absence, with Costa Rican Bryan Oviedo preferred instead.

However, the Echo suggests that there is nothing to be read into his absence and instead the Blues are weighing up the possibility of sending the youngster on loan to a Championship side for the rest of the season.
