The 19-year-old central defender has recently been on international duty with Argentina’s Under-20 side, and he is expected to have a bright future.
Despite recently turning out at the South American Youth Championship with his nation’s Under-20’s, Mammana is a full Argentine international, having made his debut at the end of last season, just prior to the start of the 2014 World Cup.
He played eight of nine games at the South American Youth Championship, as Argentina won the tournament - losing just one game in the process. He was a key part of the defence who conceded just five goals in those games, and he has clearly done enough to impress European scouts.
The same report claims that La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are also keen on signing him, and they may hold an advantage, with Mammana currently playing for the same River Plate side as head coach Diego Simeone’s son.
With his young age and lack of consistent full international experience, it is likely that Spurs would struggle to secure a work permit for Mammana if a transfer was agreed. However, they could sign him and loan him back out in his homeland to ensure they have the services of one of the most highly rated central defenders in world football.
