Manchester United target Santiago Arias ‘open’ to Premier League transfer

PSV Eindhoven defender Santiago Arias has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United.

Dutch media outlet Voetbal International referenced interest from Manchester United last year, claiming that the now-23-year-old was being scouted by the Red Devils.

A Colombian international, who frequently turns out at both right and left-back, Arias has made 58 appearances for PSV since signing from Sporting CP at the start of last season. His contract is set to keep him with the Eredivisie club until 2019, although interest from the Red Devils would be hard to turn down for any player.

However, the VI claim makes no indication that United submitted a formal offer for Arias last term, and it appears as if his immediate future will be located in the Netherlands. Despite this, the young full-back has spoken to SoccerNews, claiming that he is still on the look out for a transfer to England - as well as Germany - and will be open to any offers that are submitted.

The nine-capped international, who made three appearances for his nation at the 2014 World Cup, said: “I’m at a wonderful club and I'm very happy. I hope to play here for a long time, though I remain open in the future if the opportunity arises to play in England or Germany.”

Arias certainly sounds happy to remain with PSV at this moment in time, which is not a surprise with the Dutch giants leading the title race by a 12-point gap over second-placed Ajax. However, the knowledge that he is open to a move away in the future will certainly pique the interest of United, while continual good performances in the Netherlands could see a number of other clubs show an interest in the highly-rated full-back.
