Manchester United recently announced that young defender Paddy McNair had signed a new contract at the club.
As reported by United’s official website, the Northern Irishman has committed to the club until at least June 2017, with an option to extend for another year.
This season has been nothing short of remarkable for the 19-year-old, as he has already featured 12 times for the first-team despite barely getting a mention in the build-up to the campaign.
Tyler Blackett and Michael Keane were the young centre-backs tipped to make the breakthrough this season. But while the former has done just that, the latter moved to Burnley and, with injuries and suspensions playing their part, McNair was thrown in at the deep end.
Thankfully for United manager Louis van Gaal, the teenager excelled, and his recent performance at right-back against Cambridge suggested he could be highly effective both there and in the heart of the back-line in the years to come.
Following the announcement, we took to Twitter to see what United fans thought of the news and you can read a selection of what we found below:

Brilliant news Mcnair signing new contract, he's going to be at United for life if he gets more game time.— Luca '20 times (@SirLucaRizzo92) February 10, 2015
Fantastic news that Paddy McNair signed a new deal. Quality player that lad. Second best defender behind Rojo for me.— Sam Rawson (@sam_rawson96) February 10, 2015
Great news about Paddy McNair signing a new contract. Still baffles me why we haven't tied DDG up on a new contract though— Lee (@BleaseyMCRred) February 10, 2015
Great to see that Paddy McNair has signed a new deal, though. Would like to see him given a chance at RB in the Prem. Was great vs Cambridge— Sam Addenbrook (@samadders) February 10, 2015
