Carragher: Mousa Dembele was the one Tottenham star who really stood out for me

Mousa Dembele

Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele won the praise of former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Tottenham lost at Anfield again but unlike last season's 4-0 hammering, this time they put up a fight.

Only Mario Balotelli's late winner saw them off, edging a 3-2 win for Liverpool, with the Italian netting his first Premier League goal since his summer move from AC Milan.

Tottenham's scorers were Harry Kane and Mousa Dembele, with the Belgian midfielder singled out after the entertaining game by ex-Red Jamie Carragher as the player who impressed him the most.

With compatriot Nacer Chadli on the bench, Dembele was once again played in a more attacking role than which he began the season for Spurs, and scored his first Premier League goal of the season.

That goal came from his only shot on target, but there was plenty more to his game, with two chances created and recording an impressive 87 per cent completion rate.

With Chadli pushing for a recall, the big challenge for Maurico Pochettino will be finding his best attacking three, with Dembele, Eriksen, Lamela pushing for inclusion.

He can rotate his squad and deal with injuries, but if all are fit, then selecting a goalkeeper will not be the only tough decision he has to make for the Capital One Cup Final against Chelsea on March 1.
