The Everton defender says they will move on quickly from the draw with Liverpool on Saturday.
The Blues take on Jose Mourinho’s men on Tuesday having secured a point against Liverpool in the weekend’s Merseyside derby, securing their third clean sheet in a row to boost confidence.
Now Oviedo, who replaced an injured Leighton Baines for the game against Brendan Rodgers’ side, says his team can head to Stamford Bridge with a newfound confidence that their defensive strengths from last season are returning once more.
“We now need to focus on a big game at Chelsea,” he told Evertontv.
“We need to try to recover and be ready for the next game. The most important thing for us is to go to Stamford Bridge and win points.”
Everton’s weakness in defence has been well documented this season, as their struggling side have nearly conceded as many goals as they did during the last entirety of last season.
The return of youngster John Stones has seen the Blues with a more settled backline and more importantly, their ability to keep a clean sheet has returned, with Everton managing to shut out their opponents in the last three fixtures.
However, Oviedo was left frustrated that his side couldn’t snatch all three points late on at Goodison Park with Seamus Coleman’s late effort denied by Simon Mignolet and only Jordan Ibe’s shot hitting the post causing any concern for the Blues.
“It was a little disappointing because of course we wanted to win the game,” he added.
“Personally I wasn’t happy with a draw because I wanted the win. We can use that game to change the result. It will be a very good game against Chelsea and we have a big opportunity to pick up a win against them.”
