Report: AC Milan eyeing move for West Ham's Cheikhou Kouyate

Cheikhou Kouyate is reported to be at the top of AC Milan's summer wishlist.

AC Milan have made an ambitious approach for West Ham United midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate, according to Calciomercato.

Kouyate, 25, joined West Ham from Anderlecht in June for a reported £7 million fee, having helped the Belgian club to four straight league titles.

The Senegal international has since taken to Premier League football with few problems, making 17 impressive appearances, while seeing his imposing stature evoke comparisons to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.

“I can see why Cheikhou Kouyate has already been likened to Patrick Vieira,” manager Sam Allardyce told the London Evening Standard following his debut. “Just look at his size and the way he moves.”

A regular starter at centre-back for Anderlecht, Kouyate returned to the position for the weekend’s visit of Manchester United due to the club’s spate of defensive injures, before going on to net the opening goal in the 1-1 draw.

Those kinds of contributions in recent months have not gone unnoticed on the continent, and now Milan are said to have contacted West Ham about a potential summer move for their star man.

However, with a contract until 2018, and the Serie A side struggling in mid-table this season, there is little reason for Hammers fans to be nervous at this point.

Furthermore, Kouyate told Sky Sports back in August that the Premier League was his dream destination, while it’s doubtful he’d be allowed to leave Upton Park after just one campaign given his form thus far.
