QPR caretaker boss on Adel Taarabt and possible first start for Mauro Zarate

Chris Ramsey has been talking about two of Queens Park Rangers' attacking options as they approach their next match.

Queens Park Rangers’ caretaker manager Chris Ramsey has been speaking about Adel Taarabt and Mauro Zarate ahead of Tuesday’s match against Sunderland.

On Saturday, Ramsey took charge for the first time since Harry Redknapp’s resignation, but he was unable to guide his side to a victory, watching as they lost 1-0 to Southampton following an injury-time strike from Sadio Mane.

It was a bitter blow for QPR but they can take confidence from their performance and will look to do better when they face the Black Cats.

In comments published by QPR’s official Twitter account, Ramsey spoke about Taarabt’s performance last weekend and reserved special praise for substitute Zarate.

“I was pleased with Adel,” Ramsey said. “He’s not in 100 per cent condition, but he’s getting there. We’ll see where he’s at today.”

Taarabt started Saturday’s game for QPR before being replaced shortly after the hour-mark by loan signing Zarate.

The Argentine has made two substitute appearances since he moved from West Ham United, but according to Ramsey, he may have played his way into contention for a starting spot.

“I thought Zarate looked very sharp on Saturday,” the caretaker boss said. “He’s staked a claim for a start.”

QPR are currently 19th in the Premier League but despite them only accruing 19 points in 24 matches to date, they are only two points away from safety so a few good results could see them climb well clear of trouble.
