Liverpool beware: The Tottenham trait Brendan Rodgers' men must fear most

Tottenham Hotspur Action

The Reds host Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night and must show caution against a side in red-hot form.

Liverpool - Spurs promises to be a clash to remember tomorrow night (unless both teams are so cagey they cancel each other out).

The Reds, despite a miserable 0-0 draw in Saturday's Merseyside derby, are a side in form. But Tottenham, having beaten Arsenal 2-1 on the same day, are not just a side in form but one ridiculously high in confidence.

This particular Premier League fixture, then, promises it all.

Open, expansive football looks likely from Liverpool's side, while Brendan Rodgers' favourite buzzword 'intensity' will likely be at Anfield in abundance from visiting Spurs.

But Liverpool, despite their unbeaten run and home advantage, have to watch out for Tottenham's deadliest trait.

Indeed, Pochettino's belief in a high-pressing game, combined with his fierce training methods, are well documented and all the benefits were on show against Arsenal on Saturday.

Yet again, Tottenham outran, outmuscled and outlasted their opponents, scoring late on to seal another memorable win.

And, with how Rodgers likes his team to set out, the potential is there for the north London side to run Liverpool down just the same.

What Tottenham's ultra-fit squad are doing week by week is getting to every ball first and ensuring there is cover whenever a team-mate is out of position.

With Liverpool's quick, fluid approach, tiredness could set in if Pochettino's game-plan comes to fruition. And the likes of Adam Lallana, Raheem Sterling and co could fall right into the bear-trap left for them by Ryan Mason and friends - hounds who won't give them any space on the ball.

The answer for Rodgers? He's got to hit Spurs early and, unlike Arsenal, can't sit too deep if he gains the lead. A fit Lucas Leiva would have helped control the midfield battle, however, and should prove a big loss. Especially in the second half - when Tottenham are at their best.
