Valentin was recently sacked as part of the reaction to the recent Barcelona transfer embargo.
Barcelona are a team who, off the pitch, have had their fair share of turmoil in recent times. They are currently under a transfer embargo over a breach of rules on the signature of foreign players under the age of 18.
In the fallout from the incident heads rolled. Sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta was sacked, as was his technical secretary Alberto Valentin.
He told Reuters this weekend that he had heard of reports linking him with Liverpool, but he had not spoken to them:
"I haven’t given any interviews to the media here (in Spain) as I don’t think they have treated us correctly. I want to now continue my work in a different atmosphere than in Spain.
"I’ve read the stories about me going to Liverpool but I haven’t spoken with anyone.”
Liverpool once had a litany of Spanish technical staff on their books. Under Rafa Benitez there were plenty such as the likes of Jose Segura, Xavi Valero, Eduardo Macia and Ivan Ortega.
However now Brendan Rodgers has a largely British core to his technical staff and the idea of recruiting Valentin would certainly seem an odd one from The Reds.
So while he says he has not yet spoken to Liverpool, the likelihood is he won’t be anytime soon.
