Mousa Dembele says he's glad to finally be playing in a more advanced midfield role for Tottenham.
Tottenham demonstrated their top four credentials on Saturday with an impressive 2-1 win over North London rivals Arsenal at White Hart Lane.
Spurs are now gathering momentum as we enter the vital stage of the season, with Champions League qualification certainly on the agenda for manager Mauricio Pochettino.
One of the key figures in their recent run of great form is midfielder Mousa Dembele, with the Belgian producing a number of influential displays as an advanced playmaker for Spurs.
The former Fulham man has regularly been used in a more reserved role for Tottenham, but Dembele has thanked Pochettino for playing him as a No. 10, as reported by London 24.
"At the moment I like the position, to be honest," he said. "You can see we have a lot of good players in the midfield as well, so I think a lot of players can play in that position. Now the manager has given me a chance there and at the moment I like it."
Dembele plays just behind striker Kane for Tottenham, and he acknowledged that the 21-year-old is an outstanding talent, and whilst he loves playing near to the prolific hitman, he also believes he can play in that more defensive role if called upon.
"I like playing close to Harry Kane - everybody can see he is an unbelievable player, so it is nice to play there. But I like the position behind as well."
"In the other position, more as a No6, you have to do more defensive tasks. I think I can do both as well, but in an attacking way I can do something as well. I like both positions," Dembele added.
With Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb flourishing in midfield for Tottenham, Dembele should continue to play further forawrd in the coming weeks - and based on his recent form, Pochettino may have found the ideal midfield combination.
