Chelsea morning round-up: Mourinho plays down significance of current advantage

Jose Mourinho has been quoted by the Daily Mail playing down the significance of his team’s seven point lead over Manchester United.

Chelsea stretched open their advantage against Manchester City over the weekend but the boss says the title race isn’t over.

He says 14 games is a lot of ground to cover over the rest of the season.

Mourinho has also been quoted by Sky Sports praising the signing of right-back Branislav Ivanovic.

Ivanovic was a key figure as the Blues defeated Aston Villa away from home 2-1.

The Serbian has been described as an animal with a big heart by his club and Mourinho suggests there is unity of thought in terms of how he’s perceived by teammates.

ESPN reports that Real Madrid could make a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The Belgian is reportedly a target for the Spanish club as they try to find a long term replacement for Iker Casillas.

They also mention that David De Gea of Manchester United is still a target for the club.
