Carragher says expensive Manchester United star Falcao will leave the club

Ex-Liverpool captain believes Radamel Falcao will leave at the end of the season.

Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao is a striker under pressure, and he did not help his case against West Ham.

The Colombian is on loan from Monaco, and it was reported by The Guardian among others that it will cost the Red Devils £40 million to sign him permanently.

He has however scored just four goals since moving to Old Trafford, and missed a glorious opportunity at Upton Park with United 1-0 down.

Daley Blind scored a late equaliser, saving Falcao's blushes slightly, but his errant shooting did not go ignored.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the match convinced him that the striker will not be back at Old Trafford next season.

He told SkySports: “Everybody talks about United needing a centre back and that defensively they’re all over the place, but they’ve got one of the best defensive records in the league.

“Granted, a lot of that is down to the goalkeeper, but the problems are at the other end of the pitch and there’s no way I see Falcao staying.

"I don’t see Falcao staying at the end of the season and it’s something Manchester United will have to address in the striking department."

Is he right?

Firstly it's important to say there is still a lot that can happen between now and the end of the season. If Falcao was to score 14 goals in his final 14 Premier League games, the discussion regarding his future will change considerably.

However based on what has been seen so far, the former Atletico Madrid and Porto sensation has not done nearly enough to live up to his price tag and reputation. He has scored just four goals, but it's the big misses like against the Hammers and those away at Tottenham which weigh on the mind.

If United really want to keep him, they will need to convince Monaco to sell for around half of the proposed £20 million, but there is a good chance another club will offer higher based on his reputation alone.
