Mulumbu helped DR Congo finish third at Afcon 2015.
The African Cup of Nations comes to an end this evening, much to the pleasure of Manchester City due to Wilfried Bony and Yaya Toure’s involvement, when the Ivory Coast take on Ghana in a hotly anticipated finale.
Yesterday however saw the small issue of who finished third in the competition come to a head, as DR Congo took on fellow semi-final losers and hosts Equatorial Guinea.
Of course the latter were involved in controversy after crowd trouble in the semi-final loss to Ghana, but they were far better behaved whilst defeated by DRC in the so called ‘bronze medal match’.
DRC won the game 4-2 on penalties after 120 minutes in Malabo without a goal for either side.
Mulumbu will now be hoping to force a way into Tony Pulis’s side at The Hawthorns when returning to The Baggies in the coming days.
It is not only West Brom who will welcome home a player after this fixture. Crystal Palace will have Yannick Bolasie back shortly while Peterborough United will have the services of Gabriel Zakuani to call upon. Meanwhile, Equatorial Guinea’s eventual departure means Middlesbrough can welcome home Emilio Nsue.
