The Saints forward has split opinion during his barren run...
On the other, there was Graziano Pelle, the Southampton striker who - once upon a time - was the club's main star.
No longer. The Italian's barren run extended at QPR on Saturday afternoon as he failed to net and failed to make any sort of impact.
And, on Twitter after the game, Southampton fans were split in their opinion on the 29-year-old. Many leapt to Pelle's defence; others have had enough.
A middle way also presented itself, with Saints supporters not exactly condemning the forward but admitting that he most certainly needs a rest.
Southampton's 1-0 win - courtesy of Mane's brilliant late strike - took them to third in the Premier League, alleviating pressure from the oncoming Spurs and taking them, albeit temporarily (before West Ham's game with Louis van Gaal's side), above Manchester United. They are only four points off Manchester City.
For QPR, it was yet another defeat, one that leaves them 19th in the standings.
But the mystery of Pelle is yet to be solved. Here's the best Twitter reaction from Southampton fans to his display at QPR...
Lots of hate for Pellè around at QPR today. Totally unwarranted in my opinion. The man is clearly shattered! #saintsfc— dan james (@TheDanJames) February 7, 2015
Same people moaning about JWP, Forster, Pelle & Tadic were moaning about Guly, Wanyama & Yoshida last season. Coincidence? #SaintsFC— Big Bearded Bruce (@supervintend0) February 7, 2015
Pelle is a passenger out there, no movement, winning nothing in the air, not keeping up with the wingers. TAKE HIM OFF! #saintsfc— pnearn (@pnearn) February 7, 2015
Wonder how many points #SaintsFC would have if Pelle scored all the chances that hit the bar.— Nicky Madden (@NiiiiiiiickSFC) February 7, 2015
