Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale has told BT Sport that Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.
The former Tottenham star made the comments before Saturday’s North London derby against Arsenal at White Hart Lane, which ended in a 2-1 win for the hosts.
“I think so and I hope so,” the 25-year-old told BT Sport when asked if Spurs can finish in the top four. “They had a slow start to the season, but they have progressed a lot under the new manager and seem to be building up confidence all the time.
“Yeah, I hope they go on a good run, hopefully beat Arsenal and qualify for the Champions League. And you never know, we could play them next season.”
Can Tottenham finish in top four?
Bale’s hopes for a Tottenham win on Saturday did come true, as Harry Kane scored twice in the second half to help the hosts to a 2-1 comeback victory.
The win has lifted Spurs up to fifth in the Premier League table with 43 points from 23 matches, level on points with Manchester United, who have a game in hand.
Arsenal are now a point behind in sixth, while Southampton are just two points ahead in third.
Spurs can certainly finish in the top four, but they will not find it easy because the other teams are going strong as well.
However, victory over fierce North London rivals Arsenal will have certainly enhanced Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s chances of a top-four finish.
Tottenham now need to build on their victory against Arsenal and continue to pick up points in the coming games.
