The former Manchester United and Liverpool striker has been impressed with the 21-year-old forward’s performance so far this season and backs him to score today.
“I think this is a very tough game to call but Magpies’ striker Ayoze Perez has really impressed me in recent weeks and he might be the difference between two sides who both had excellent wins last weekend,” the 35-year-old ex-Newcastle star wrote on Betvictor.com.
A footnote added: “Michael’s recommendation: Ayoze Perez to score at anytime at 21/10.”
Can Owen’s prediction come true?
Perez has indeed played well for Newcastle so far this season and has shown the promise he was expected to when he moved in the summer of 2014.
The youngster joined the Magpies from Spanish club Tenerife in June and has settled relatively well in the Premier League.
Perez has scored five goals and created 14 goals in 22 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, while having a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 65%.
Blessed with skills and technique, the youngster has been one of the better players for the Magpies so far this season, and he will certainly be looking to add to his goals tally against Stoke.
It will not be easy, though, as the Potters are having a good season and will be determined to stop Newcastle from scoring today.
