Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell made his Villarreal home debut on Saturday as his new team defeated Granada 2-0 at the El Madrigal stadium.
The Costa Rica international found opportunities for first-team football hard to come by at the Gunners and took the opportunity to move out on loan in January.
He joins La Liga outfit Villarreal at a good time as Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side push towards a top four spot and face Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey semi-final over the next couple of weeks.
But above all, the 22-year-old is being handed regular action and after just two matches has already played more minutes in a Villarreal shirt than he managed in the Premier League this campaign.
After making his official debut for the club in the recent low-key 1-0 win at Getafe in the Copa Del Rey, Campbell made his home bow and La Liga entrance against a struggling Granada side.
Placed out on the right wing in a conventional 4-4-2 formation, he was heavily involved and completed three successful dribbles according to renowned statistic website Whoscored.com.
Aside from his dribbles, Campbell took one shot, created one chance via a key pass and maintained a 79.2% pass completion rate – his side’s fourth highest of the afternoon.
Full match fitness, however, still eludes the Gunners ace and he was replaced just after the hour mark by Denis Cheryshev with his side comfortably in control.
