West Ham will host United at Boleyn Ground in a Premier League game that could have a significant impact on the race for the top four.
Louis van Gaal’s side will head to London full of confidence, but former United striker Sheringham, who now works as the attacking coach at West Ham, fancies Sam Allardyce’s men to nick it.
“I would expect goals,” the former England international is quoted as saying by West Ham’s official Twitter account. “Both teams have got good firepower. United’s defensive difficulties have been speculated about a lot this year and they’ve found players to come in.
“They’re winning games so they’ll be confident and expect to win again. But we’re a formidable team with big firepower, so I expect goals and, sorry United fans, but I expect us to edge it by one!”
Could Sheringham’s prediction come true?
West Ham can certainly edge past United and pick up all three points, especially as they have a good home form.
However, United will head into the encounter as favourites. The Manchester outfit have won matches without playing exceptionally well in recent weeks, and they know how to grind out results.
The much-talked United defence remains vulnerable, but the fact is that they have conceded just one more goal than league leaders Chelsea (although the Red Devils have played a fewer game).
If West Ham are to win against United, then they will need to take control of the game right from the start and score an early goal.
