The Dutchman took a ball to the crown jewels in the tie with QPR today.
QPR and Southampton went head-to-head at Loftus Road this afternoon in what was a tight affair, from which Southampton ran away with all three points. A 90th minute strike from Sadio Mane did the business for Southampton in a game that was marred by serious injuries to Matt Targett, Richard Dunne and Charlie Austin.
It was also an eye-watering experience for Southampton wide man Eljero Elia, as he took an impact every footballer fears.
He was nailed straight in the, let’s say, gentleman’s area, by a strike off the boot of QPR defender Dunne.
It was enough to draw gasps and universal sympathy for the Southampton player, but the Dutchman was quick to allay fans fears as to the productivity of the affected region after the game. He posted on Twitter:
Btw everything is ok with my balls. I am lucky I already have 3 children #lol— ELJERO ELIA (@ELJERO11ELIA) February 7, 2015
Elia arrived at the club on loan from Werder Bremen at the start of the year and has certainly had an impact on proceedings at St Marys. He has impressed in his appearances for the club and scored a match-winning double at Newcastle United recently.
He is becoming a firm fan favourite with the Southampton faithful and if he continues to be as sharing with the Saints fanbase that will continue.
