Newcastle United’s young Swiss defender Kevin Mbabu has taken to Twitter to express his excitement ahead of his first training session since joining Rangers on loan.
The 19-year-old is predominantly a centre-back, although he can play in either full-back position if required, and he was one of five Newcastle players to head to Scotland on loan on transfer deadline day.
On Saturday, Mbabu took to Twitter to write, “Looking forward to my first training session on Monday with Rangers #Coming back from injury.”
The teenager is very highly rated at St James' Park and this move could be the making of him.
While he is yet to make his debut for Newcastle’s senior team, he has the ability to have a big impact at Rangers and potentially return in the summer able to challenge for sporadic first-team appearances at the Magpies in the short term.
It will be interesting to see which of Newcastle’s young loanees impress the most in the months ahead, knowing as they do that it could be the difference between making it at their parent club and, in some cases, moving on for good.
