Liverpool round-up: Early team news and Joao Teixeira update

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

Liverpool take on Everton in today’s late kick-off on a tantalising day of Premier League football.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are currently seventh in the Premier League while Everton are 12th but as both sets of fans know very well, form goes out of the window on days like this.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Daniel Sturridge could be given his first start since returning from a five-month injury lay-off; but Lazar Markovic, Adam Lallana and Lucas Leiva are all doubts.

This is Steven Gerrard’s final Merseyside derby and he will want to go out with a bang but new Everton arrival Aaron Lennon has the talent to make an impact of his own in his first such encounter.

In other news, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has been speaking to the Argus about Liverpool loanee Joao Teixeira.

The youngster was in fine form before illness robbed him of a chance to play against Arsenal in the FA Cup last month.

And now Hughton has been praising the player, who could return to action this weekend.

“When you are a young player like he is the Arsenal game is a massive game, so it was a real blow for him to miss out.

“But he’s had a good week’s training and he’s ready and available.”
