Go easy on Arsenal loanee Podolski, pleads German striker

Lukas Podolski 2 Germany

Mario Gomez has urged fans and media to give Lukas Podolski a fair chance,

German striker Mario Gomez has pleaded with fans in Italy to be patient with Lukas Podolski, report channel Sport1

Podolski is on loan until the end of the season at Inter Milan, but is yet to show his best form.

He has not scored in five starts so far, and with Inter continuing their inconsistent form, Gomez is aware that pressure will grow for his compatriot, having had a tough time himself since switching from Bayern Munich to Fiorentina two summers ago.

He said: "Lukas was in a completely different reality, since the Italian football is not comparable to the Premier League or the Bundesliga.

"So you can not get here and play out of his boots. He rarely got Arsenal match practice and was injured.

"At Inter for Lukas expectations are even higher and of course the people demand that everything has to happen very quickly."

Despite Podolski's lack of football for Arsenal, when he was called upon for the Gunners earlier in the season he still found the back of the net, netting three Champions League goals.

Italian football is a new experience for him however, and he is joining a very inconsistent team who sit 13th in Serie A and have won just one of their last five games.

If he can't start scoring to help his side, there is a real prospect fair or not, that he becomes a scapegoat, and an expendable one, with Inter already leaving him out of their Europa League squad, picking Xherdan Shaqiri instead.
