The Gunners lost the North London derby 2-1, despite taking the lead through Germany international playmaker Mesut Ozil in the 11th minute.
England Under-21 international Harry Kane turned on the style in the second half and scored twice to lead Tottenham to a 2-1 victory.
“The boys are devastated to lose the game and it’s not nice for us to come here and lose the derby,” the England international told Arsenal’s official website.
“It’s a massive game for the whole club, the fans and it’s something that we’re really disappointed about.”
Why Tottenham fans will be happy
Tottenham fans will be delighted with Welbeck’s comments about the players being “devastated”. After all, Spurs and Arsenal are bitter North London rivals.
Over the years Arsenal have had the bragging rights in North London, but for the moment they have gone to Spurs.
However, there is a lot of work to be done by the Tottenham players if they want the season to be termed genuine success. One win does not always define a season.
Despite the loss on Saturday, Arsenal are very much in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League along with Tottenham.
Arsene Wenger’s side have bounced back on many occasions this season and cannot be ruled out doing the same again.
As for Spurs, they should not get carried away and must focus on the upcoming games.
