Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal will resume their hostilities today when they take on each other in the North London derby.
Both Tottenham and Arsenal will head into this afternoon’s Premier League clash at White Hart Lane full of confidence.
The two North London rivals are competing for a place in the top four, and today’s game promises to be hugely entertaining.
Tottenham and Arsenal both have some very good players who will be looking to assert their supremacy.
Here, we select a combined XI from both squads, based on current form and quality exhibited in their careers so far.
Hugo Lloris is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, and the Frenchman pretty much walks into this position.
Mathieu Debuchy has struggled with injuries so far this season, but he is the best of the bunch of right-backs in North London.
Laurent Koscielny is arguably Arsenal’s top centre-back, while Jan Vertonghen has regained his rhythm this campaign. Kieran Gibbs fills the left-back slot ahead of Danny Rose.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham have some very good central midfielders, but Aaron Ramsey and Nabil Bentaleb are probably the best of them all. While the Welshman has shown what he is capable of over the years, the latter is starting to make a name for himself in the Premier League.
Santi Cazorla is a superb footballer who has not always had consistency. However, this campaign the Spain international has stepped up and filled the shoes of Mesut Ozil, who is only just coming back from a long-term injury.
Ozil makes the team as well, but largely due to what he is capable of and what he has done in his career. The Germany international has not played much this season, but he remains a world-class attacking midfielder with sensational vision for the final pass.
Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen also makes the team. The Denmark international has created 53 chances in 23 Premier League appearances this season and is one of the best young players in Europe.
Harry Kane has been in superb form over the last few months and has scored 20 goals in all competitions this season already, but as there can be only 11 players on the pitch at any given time, Alexis Sanchez gets the nod.
The Chile international forward, who is currently struggling with a hamstring injury, has been arguably the best player in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals and creating 56 chances in 21 appearances.
Here is the North London XI:
Mathieu Debuchy - Laurent Koscielny - Jan Vertonghen - Kieran Gibbs
Aaron Ramsey - Nabil Bentaleb
Santi Cazorla - Mesut Ozil - Christian Eriksen
