The club's striker is set to miss the next two weeks with the problem.
Sunderland face Swansea City at the weekend and will go into the game without the services of their striker Connor Wickham. The talented frontman pulled out of the Sunderland team moments before kickoff against Fulham in the FA Cup this week with a calf problem. That has not recovered just yet and Gus Poyet confirmed yesterday, as reported by the Daily Mail, that he would be absent for at least two weeks.
The striker himself has now Instagrammed on the matter. Wickham took to the social networking site to confirm his injury and announce that he was ‘gutted’ to be missing out on the action.
Here is the post in question.
Wickham was largely credited with helping Sunderland survive relegation last season. He was recalled early into a loan spell with Leeds United and was a massive help in the push to survival, scoring five goals in three games in April that effectively sealed their safety.
This season he has been a regular in the Sunderland team but has been much less prolific, scoring just four goals in his 25 appearances across all competitions.
