Report: Forest and two other Championship clubs chase Newcastle defender

Sheffield Wednesday - The Owls

Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all said to be considering making a move for Newcastle United defender Remie Streete.

The Chronicle reports that Nottingham Forest, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday are amongst the teams keeping a keen eye on Newcastle United defender Remie Streete.

Streete's contract at St. James' Park expires at the end of the season and the Championship trio all apparently believe the 20-year-old could be a bargain buy.

Streete, who has recently joined Rangers on loan until the end of the campaign, has previously impressed in his fleeting showings in senior football and there should be no shortage of scouts tracking his progress at Ibrox.

The commanding defender has already stated that he will be considering a permanent move to Rangers, but staying in England could be too attractive an option to turn down, should one of the Football League sides make an offer.

What's the impact for Newcastle?

Although Streete's departure wouldn't impact on the quality of Newcastle's first-team his departure would rather go against the message that they have been sending out.

The Magpies are said to be keen on utilising their academy system better and, as such, it would be a surprise to see one of their brighter talents leave at such an early stage of his career.

Streete still has plenty of developing to do, but there is excitement about his future on Tyneside and he would make a good addition for any of the second-tier trio, should they be able to do a deal.
