QPR manager update: Sherwood will reportedly be in the stands today

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss could be watching against Southampton.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tim Sherwood is all but certain to become Queens Park Rangers' next manager and will watch the west London side's Premier League clash with Southampton later today from the stands.

The 46-year-old has been out of management since leaving Spurs in the summer but appears set to succeed Harry Redknapp at QPR.

Redknapp resigned earlier this week, leaving Sherwood as favourite to replace him at Loftus Road - an eventuality seemingly secured through the presence of Les Ferdinand as the club's technical director and Chris Ramsey as a member of the coaching staff.

And the Mirror claim Sherwood will be in the stands as QPR take on Southampton during today's top-flight clash.

Whether the 46-year-old is the right choice to succeed Redknapp is another matter, of course. Does Sherwood really possess any tactical acumen? Where is his experience? How can he be expected to motivate a relegation-threatened side if Tottenham lost virtually every single big game by huge margins under his charge last season?

These are all questions for Tony Fernandes to worry about, of course. But a cynic might say the QPR chairman has dealt with an underperforming manager by hiring someone who is about to replace that manager with one of his mates. A cynic might say...
